ISLAMABAD: The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has permitted military courts to render decisions; however, the outcome of the ongoing appeals will determine whether penalties are carried out or whether people are released.
The Supreme Court permitted military courts to find 85 defendants guilty.
According to the ruling, the defendants should be freed if their sentences may be reduced.
The accused may be moved to another court following sentencing. The Additional Attorney General informed the constitutional bench that 20 of the 103 individuals had been released and that two more had been added.Β
By maintaining the legal process in continuing disputes and guaranteeing that final judgements are still subject to the court’s decisions, the top court’s noted decision protects appellants’ rights and the judiciary’s oversight.
The hearing on civilian trials in military courts has been postponed by the Supreme Court until after the Christmas break.
