Shohei Ohtani’s 50th Home Run Ball Fetches Record £3.4 Million at Auction

1 min read

The baseball hit by Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani for his 50th home run of the Major League Baseball season has set a new auction record, selling for £3.4 million ($4.4 million).

On September 19, Ohtani made history by becoming the first player in baseball to achieve 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season during a game against the Miami Marlins.

The price paid by the anonymous buyer marks the highest amount ever recorded for a sports ball at auction. The previous record was held by a baseball from 1998, which was sold for £2.3 million ($3 million) in 1999, commemorating Mark McGwire’s historic achievements that season.

Ohtani’s remarkable performance this season has solidified his status as one of baseball’s all-time greats, attracting significant attention from fans and collectors alike.
