The latest chip by Google is said to solve a problem in five minutes which even the fastest supercomputers in the world would take, by current estimates, around ten septillions, or 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years, to complete. The chip is the latest advancement in quantum computing, an upcoming generation of computing whose principles of operation will drive from the laws of particle physics that govern the behavior of the particles.

Ten septillion years is a considerably longer period than the known cosmos, and the scientists behind the most recent quantum computing achievement are using the non-technical word “mind-boggling” to describe it. With a size comparable to an After Eight mint, the new chip, named Willow and manufactured in the Californian seaside town of Santa Barbara, Google claims that significant advancements are incorporated into the “Willow” quantum processor, which opens the door to a practical, large-scale quantum computer.

 

The newest and fastest supercomputers in the 10 septillion years:

Willow, a quantum computer, demonstrated impressive performance using the random circuit sampling (RCS) benchmark, the classically hardest benchmark in the field. Willow’s performance on this benchmark is astonishing, performing a computation in under five minutes that would take one of today’s fastest supercomputers 1025 or 10 septillion years. This impressive performance supports the idea that quantum computation occurs in many parallel universes, aligning with the idea of living in a multiverse. The newest results for Willow are the greatest the best so far.

The leverage of mind-boggling computing chip:

Several organizations, including Microsoft, Harvard University, and Quantinum, a company with ties to the UK, are attempting to figure out how to use the computational power of quantum physics, including Google Quantum AI. Reducing quantum chips’ fragility is a major issue because even minute material flaws, cosmic rays, and ionizing radiation have the ability to derail them.
