Donald Trump named Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ for second time

Time selected Donald Trump as its “Person of the Year” for the second consecutive year.

Trump received the award for the second time on Thursday, after Taylor Swift, who received it the year before, despite his frequent criticism of the media.

The prestigious title was originally awarded to the president-elect in 2016, following his initial election to the presidency.

“Trump has experienced a political comeback unlike any other in American history.” His attempts to alter the results of the 2020 election culminated in the attack on the U.S. Capitol, marking the disgraceful conclusion of his first term, the magazine wrote.

“As the first former President to be convicted of a crime, he spent six weeks during the general election in a New York City courtroom—a fact that did little to dampen his support,” the story went on to say.

Near the courthouse where a jury found Trump guilty earlier this year, Trump will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.

He defeated not one but two Democratic opponents, won all seven swing states, and became the first Republican to win the popular vote in 20 years after escaping an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. The magazine stated, “He has reshaped American politics, remaking the GOP and leaving Democrats to face the consequences of what went wrong.” “We’ll see how much Trump can deliver if America was craving change.”

Vice President Kamala Harris, Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of former Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, Jerome Powell, podcaster Joe Rogan, and Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s first female president, were among the strong field of contenders he defeated.

Trump is accustomed to seeing his image appear on Time magazine covers. According to the Associated Press, the cover initially included the then-real estate tycoon in 1989. Since then, he has led a variety of lives, first breaking into the entertainment industry with his popular show The Apprentice and then, naturally, joining the political sphere.

According to the magazine, selecting a president-elect as Person of the Year has been a tradition for almost nine decades.

On January 20, 2025, he will have his historic inauguration.
