India and Canada Expel Diplomats Amid Murder Accusations

Tensions between India and Canada have escalated as both countries expelled top diplomats following accusations by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government. The Canadian government alleges that Indian agents were involved in criminal activities on Canadian soil, including homicides, extortion, and violent acts.

Canadian police stated that these actions primarily targeted supporters of the pro-Khalistan movement, which advocates for an independent Sikh homeland in India. While officials reported the involvement of a dozen agents, they did not confirm a direct link to the June 2023 murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

India has vehemently denied the accusations, dismissing them as “preposterous.” The diplomatic row has further strained relations between the two nations, already tense over issues related to Sikh separatism and cross-border security concerns.
